Platformer Test 0
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
This was a project from back in 2023 (early 2024?) that I never got around to publishing. The goal for the project was to create a Celeste like player controller!
- Features
- Dashing
- Supers
- Wavedashes
- Pause at start to allow for changing directions (5 frames)
- Wall Jumping
- Wall jump straight up if holding towards a wall
- Wall jump still activates if you are a few pixels away from the wall
- Forgiving Systems
- Hitting a corner of a ceiling will cause the player to move around it
- Coyote time for jump (5 frames)
- Input buffer for jump (5 frames)
- Collisions
- Custom collision system created with just raycasts
- Probably more finicky than just using rigid bodies but I wanted to do it for the challenge and experience
- Moving platforms
- One way platforms
- One way moving platforms
- Custom collision system created with just raycasts
- Dashing
- Wish list if I return to this project
- Adding more dash techniques other than supers and wavedashes
- Player keeps their momentum after jumping off of a platform
- Fixing a bug with couching that creates a visual glitch for a few frames after pressing down
- Adding a use for coins and gems
- Adding more levels and placing enemies in them
Art assets for player and enemy created by Andy Danger
NOTE: Please do not try to override the frame rate the game runs at! It is locked at 60 fps. I did this as an intentional choice in case I went further with development, I wanted to have the potential for true frame perfect inputs. As such, there are some systems in the game that rely on the game running at 60 fps.
